The other morning, I was running late to clinic when suddenly the garage door would not open. It got stuck halfway.
Wonderful, I thought. Now what?
A garage door can feel like a pretty big problem when it decides not to cooperate. So I took a closer look.
Up near the pulley system, something caught my eye. A tiny little string was hanging down, right where the top of the door was getting blocked.
I climbed onto our riding lawnmower, balanced against the car, and looked closer. Sure enough, this one little string was keeping a 350-pound garage door from opening.
So I pulled it away, pressed the button again, and the whole door opened easily. I made it to clinic on time.
Sometimes the block is smaller than it looks
It reminded me of something I see in clinic all the time.
Sometimes we have a big, heavy thing in life that will not move. A door that will not open. A pattern that keeps repeating. A fear. A symptom. A feeling of being stuck.
And sometimes what is blocking the path is not nearly as big as we think. Sometimes it is a tiny little string. A quiet belief like, maybe the world does not want my gift, or, maybe I will be rejected if I am fully myself.
Small thought. Big impact.
In clinic, this is often part of the work we do through acupuncture and NAET: gently helping the body and mind release patterns that no longer serve.
What can shift
One patient, after working through a longstanding fear of heights, was finally able to ride an elevator above the second floor without heart palpitations.
Another who once felt real fear around hiking and nature, after clearing layers of fear and stress, now wants to hike, camp, and enjoy time at his family’s cabin in the woods.
More ease. More trust. More life.
Sometimes it is not the whole 350-pound door. Sometimes it is simply a little string, waiting to be cleared so the door can finally open. Interested in opening a few doors of your own? Learn about focus, stress and nervous system support.
